I really appreciate everyone's support and I hope to become part of the local foodie scene and local Farmer's Markets like I was in the past.

Another Beautiful Day
Well by the end of the week I should be able to start posting about all the cool chefs and farms that we will have at the Expo. All ready my body and appetite are changing for the spring weather. Of course with my Saudi boys I am learning all kinds of new and interesting dishes. Interacting with all these chefs in preparation for the ALIVE! Expo has been so cool. I love bouncing ideas off one another and I love seeing what others are doing. I don't believe in competition other than a friendly battle.I have so much respect for those people in my industry. The great thing about this competition is that it will twist conventional dishes making them fit in the all natural organic sustainable arena. When people participate in the VIP area they will then be able to vote on their favorite dishes.Right next to the VIP right next to the Green & Healthy Gourmet Competition. I still have a few spaces left in the competition and 1 space left in the Farmer's Market. So if you know someone or wanted to participate give me a call. 404-271-8616

Spring is here!!!
So as I continue to get ready for the www.ALIVEEXPO.com I am celebrating the fact that the tickets went on sale today! It is going to be a great event. I can't wait for the cook off.. My knees are still knocking at the thought of being on stage but it will be fun. I am working on a lot of recipes. I am so excited that my cousin Rick is coming to help me build my back yard into a classroom. It will be really great. I am so excited! I just found out that he hates curries which is a good thing to know I was going to make Kapsa which is my new Saudi Arabian specialty. I am going make something American. The challenge is finding something that Rayn will eat. Tariq is a little better, but they still love comfort food so that is why I learned Kapsa. I just had a chat with an amazing chef just looking at his creations have my mind spinning. The first person other than me that can read Shakespeare or a cookbook with the same passion. Well I need to start getting that plan together so when Rick gets here he will know what we have to do! I am so excited. I can't wait for next weekend.

Watching and unpacking gearing up for the upcoming spring! Lots to do
I am unpacking and working on the up coming events! ALIVE! EXPO is a huge event. I will be on stage and I can't wait. Organizing the Cooking Event is so much fun! I love creating new dishes but I really love tasting new dishes. They are really amazing dishes. It is going to be a Foodie Spectacular.
Unpacking and putting away books and my boys keep commenting on the books, kitchen wares and pictures. Living with an amateur photographer you would think that he would have more understanding of all these pictures. He loves looking at them then just shakes his head and laughs.
Now having two Saudi Arabian boys living with me I am learning new cooking and what is traditionally from there. I am also trying to go through 7 plus years of storage. I get emotional then all these creative ideas start hitting me. I have been writing them down. So stay tuned and soon I will be posting these classes and there various locations.
It is going to be awesome.! Well... I watched Essential Pepin then Rick Bayless and now Lidia is on just the little tips they are sharing it is amazing.

ALIVE! EXPO COOK OFF!!! The countdown begins.
I just sent out this email to many talented chefs that I know. I can't wait. Just to give everyone a sneak peek about this off the chain event. It will be a must if you are a foodie. Mark your calendar. April 28th and April 29th. There will be amazing farmer's market treats there right next to the competition. This year I will have a demo on stage. I appreciate everyone's support. I will be using my maiden name going forward but I don't want to really start a new page. So I am going to tie it together until I can change things. So I will be like the artist formerly known as Prince. I am formerly known as Chef Lisa Slater now introducing Chef Lisa Burkey ! Thanks to all my family, friends, and boyfriend Drew who have been there through these rough times. The New Year has brought so much for me to be grateful for that I can't wait to see everyone at this huge event. Please come cook with me! Please pass along the contest info too! I will be selecting the most creative dishes to give everyone the most innovative Healthy Green Gourmet experience ever!

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Thinking about the most creative people that I have worked with I am writing to you offer you a very exciting an unique opportunity.
I have been brought on-board by Alive! Expo to put on a “Healthy Menu Competition” during the 8th Annual Alive! Expo Atlanta. This is a great opportunity – however limited in space - with just 25 openings for chefs to compete at the expo in the Green & Healthy Gourmet Lounge. The Alive! Expo is the largest natural products health & wellness event in the country with attendance of over 20,000 consumers over the weekend. This year’s expo will be overly exciting with this competition in addition to the chef's demos on stage.
Participation is FREE! There is a $25.00 application fee which is tax deductible as this event is sponsored by Project Green, a local Atlanta 501c3 non-profit.
We are looking for chefs that like to push the envelope and be creative. Participating chefs will be allowed to choose up to two categories for their dish samples. All dishes must fit into the below categories utilizing natural or organic products to create their ultimate dishes.
- Vegetarian/Vegan
- Meat
- Gluten Free
- Raw
- Snack/Dessert
I hope to see you participate in this phenomenal event. I really want talented chefs to shine and show the world Atlanta's talent. This is an amazing way to promote your business, as well as yourself as a chef. I personally participated in last year’s event at which Spark St. John took amazing photos of me, which really added to my Chef's portfolio and opened a lot of doors for me and my career. I want to help you expand your businesses as well. We anticipate over 10 media agencies in attendance, as well as food bloggers.
Attached is the application and contest rules. Please remember!!! Space is limited and we will only be able to approve the first 25 applications!!! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you and helping you grow and prosper, as I have!

New Year and Off to a New Start
I am so excited about the New Year and the new things coming up. Things are all happening so fast and here we are in 2012. This Friday I will be turning 46 and Saturday night we will be celebrating with Saudi Arabian Food at the www.atlantaundergroundmarket.com . It is a members only event but you can sign up for free prior to the event. There will be many other Chef's there showcasing their food. This time of year is really challenging in some farm to table aspects. I visited a farm last week and due to Winter the chickens aren't laying as much. So they were completely out of eggs. I did get to meet Luke the mule in person. My grandson Brayden had a blast seeing the farm. My goal this year is to blog more so this is the first attempt. Also to learn a lot more about technology that goes along with the business. I am working on a monthly newsletter that will feature pictures and recipes from each Farmer's Market as well as from the Atlanta Underground Market. I have a young up and coming photographer that will be helping me. So here is a to a year of discovering food together.

Cooking Demo at the Athen's Farmers Market
Saturday despite the sever weather warning people didn't stay away! The Athens Market was buzzing with excitement. What was deemed a slow day was great for me! Being my first cooking demo there it was important to get the lay of the land a little bit! People seemed to enjoy the food and I had lovely produce and pasta provided by the vendors Mill Farm, Roots, Hickory Hill Farm, Antonios, Harvest Moon, and Blue Moon Farm and Atlanta Fresh
I will be doing a cooking demo each month. At that time I will utilize different vendors. Although it is a not an easy task picking out the food for the cooking demo. There are so many beautiful items to choose from. Athens Farmer's Market is a unique place with its atmosphere and vendors that have been together for years!
I am having a great time being a part of the market. April 18th was my first cooking demo and I can't wait for May 14th my next demo! Hope to see you there!
Come cook with me!
